Top of the Rock: Manhattan, NYC

Hi, & happy Friday,

Each time I’m in NYC, I’m only around for a few days. However, I try to squeeze in as much as possible since there’s a lot to see. I’ve been coming here for years now and I think I’ve only just scratched the surface.

On this trip, I had no plans to be a tourist, content to sit indoors and watch Netflix, but when one of the people you come to see works in the Rockefeller building, you probably have to go to the top of the Rock. So, I did.

For anyone who doesn’t know, the Rockefeller building is one of the tallest structures in New York city. Like most buildings of its kind (think Empire State Building), the topmost deck is often a tourist attraction.

These photos are from the topmost deck, but there are three levels with observation decks so you can definitely stick with your preference.

Although the nightlights were pretty, I think I might have preferred to be there in the daytime, or just in time to watch the sun set over the city.

There’s an ice skating rink right in front of the building that I wanted to go to, but I settled for people watching from the sidelines. The last time I put on skates, I had to hold on to the banister to keep from falling. I promise I’ll try it again one day.

Advice – Unless you really want a souvenir as proof that you went, you can skip the overpriced photo package at the top of the Rock and take your own pictures. Chances are they’ll turn out better and not cost you $40. If I didn’t hate ours so much, I’d have bought it as proof.

Heading back home while the rest of the city celebrated Halloween.
