Wanderlust Wednesday #5

Hello everyone,

As I write this, I imagine myself having lunch outside a nice little restaurant that overlooks the Aegean Sea. In my mind, this is what an afternoon in Santorini, Greece would look like.

Something like that.

Santorini is actually part of a group of islands in the Aegean Sea that formed from several volcanic eruptions. In fact, it’s unique soil might be what makes the food -cherry tomatoes for example- some of the tastiest in the world.

Did anyone else just picture themselves watching the sunset from a balcony with a bowl of cherry tomatoes in hand? Yes? Me too! Twinsies!

Speaking of sunsets, the ones in Santorini are apparently of the ‘take your breath away’ variety. Just one more reason to find me there.

What I want to do: 1) Swim + cliff dive at Amoudi Bay. I’m definitely not a thrill seeker so the smaller cliffs – closer to the ground, lol – are the only ones I’d be jumping off of. I think I’ve had my fair share of unnecessarily high cliff dives. 2) Watch a stunning Santorini sunset like the one pictured below. There is something about the sky taking on different hues at once that makes sunsets seem magical to me. 3) Explore nearby cities/villages; Oia, Fira, Kamari etc.

Oia is probably what you picture when you think of Greece

Views worth seeing

santorini-1405658_960_720What I want to see: 1)The colored beaches. These beaches are all over Santorini and get their color from volcanic lava that cooled and solidified over time. 2) Sunset from the Oia castle. 3) Views of the surrounding calderas (volcanic craters). 4)A volcano: I went back and forth on this one (because I’m scared), but then decided that it would be cool to learn about + see one of the volcanoes.

What I want to eat: 1) Spanakopita (Spinach pie) : They had me at Spinach + Cheese. 2) Souvlaki (Meat on a stick): The Greeks are great at cooking meat and I am great at eating it; everyone wins. 3) Dolmadakia (stuffed grape leaves – orrrr ‘Moi Moi with the leaves on’) : What do grape leaves even taste like? Stuffed too, ah the possibilities for my tummy seem endless!.

Okay, I might have to try and cook one of these because I cannot ignore how good they look.

Gorgeous beaches, stunning views, vibrant cities and delicious food. You don’t need to be a travel enthusiast to fantasize about Santorini.

If you’re lucky enough to have visited the island, please comment below and then forgive me if I gush exceedingly about that fact. Santorini is a place after my heart.

Until next Wednesday, keep dreaming
