How are you guys today? I’m fairly stressed out but writing usually has a way of tuning all that out.
As part of today’s post, I want to tell you guys about someone that’s an overflowing source of inspiration for me. His name is Louis Cole. A friend introduced me to Louis a couple of months ago and I have been stuck on his videos ever since. If you’ve never been interested in traveling or exploring, Louis might just remedy that. Even if you’re not inspired to get on a plane, boat or train, his videos are simply interesting to watch.
Why am I on about this Louis person you ask? I chose to ramble a bit about him because today’s Wanderlust Wednesday destination is inspired by one of his recent adventures.
So, if I had a boarding pass in my hand right now, it would definitely say I’m heading to Peru. If you clicked the hyperlink in the first paragraph, that was the foreshadowing. You guys can tell I like foreshadowing right?.
Peru is one of those countries in South America with a wealth of history and beautiful sites to visit. Every year, thousands of visitors flock to the region to visit the famous Machu Picchu; and their pictures do a great job of telling me why. At >7000 feet above sea level, visiting Machu Picchu will literally and figuratively take your breath away. Although, I imagine the literal bit is not as much fun.
In an ideal world, I would be in Peru tomorrow.
What I want to do : 1) Take a bus to Cusco, Peru to get on the Inca Rail headed to Machu Picchu. Can you imagine watching the sun rise above the Andes mountains? Yeah, me neither. I think we have to see it for ourselves. 2) Hike up to the stunning Laguna 69 in Áncash.
What I want to see :There are a couple of places I would love to see in Peru. One of them is the Inca citadel in Machu Picchu, and the other is the floating reed islands on lake Titicaca. The reeds are actually significant to the livelihood of the Uru people, who use it for everything from housing to medicine and food! Talk about being resourceful. You can read more about them here.
What I want to eat :Rocoto Relleno (stuffed peppers). These peppers are apparently ten times spicier than a jalapeño pepper. Sounds like my kind of dish already. I would probably follow up with some chocolate for dessert from Choco Museo, Peru’s amazing chocolate factory. You can make your own chocolate here too; what is not to like?

Postscript : While I was writing this post, I noticed Peru experienced an earthquake in it’s copper region. My prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives.
